Sweet Home Alabama

Or Sweet Home Pulse Oximeter, as the headline to our favourite article on p32 of the June edition of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Newsletter goes.  (Click here to read it.)

The Alabama State Society of Anesthesiologists (ASSA) has teamed up with the Alabama Association of Nurse Anesthetists (ALANA) to raise enough funding to put a pulse oximeter in every operating room in Ecuador.

“The fact that so many practitioners in developing countries lack this standard piece of equipment is unacceptable,”  said ASSA member Dr Gwendolyn Boyd. “We have the power to solve this problem – and there is no one better or more appropriate than anesthesiologists working together with anesthetists to accomplish this goal!”

The target is approximately 350 pulse oximeters, and ASSA Past President and project coordinator Dr Peter Loux has a vision for success through bold and broad collaboration. “Imagine having CRNAs, surgeons and anesthesiologists all working together on this project!”

At Lifebox, we know that it is going to take a lot of teamwork to Make It 0.  And we’re thrilled to stand alongside our colleagues in Alabama in such sweet solidarity.
