Togo

In Togo we have been greatly aided by the efforts of Dr Keith Thomson and Mercy Ships which sponsored the distribution of an initial 22 pulse oximeters and organized Lifebox training for local anaesthesia providers.

This was complemented in November 2012 by training of 179 local colleagues and the distribution of 113 further oximeters, a project undertaken in collaboration with the National Association of Anaesthesia Technicians of Togo (ANTART) and with funding from the 2011 BMJ Christmas Appeal.

You can read more about our work in Togo and the reality of delivering anaesthesia in this country in a recent British Medical Journal blog.
