In November 2013, Vanderbilt Department of Anesthesiology set a goal of raising enough funds to close the OR monitoring gap in Guyana by outfitting the country with 50 Lifebox® pulse oximeters. The university still has quite a way to go to achieve our goal, but thanks to the individuals that have already contributed, in just the first couple of weeks they raised enough to provide 4 of these life-saving pieces of equipment to areas where there are currently none.
We look forward to working with Vanderbilt on this exciting project, and to provide oximeters for facilities throughout Guyana. Donations specifically for this initiative, can be made directly to Vanderbilt through their website. Training and distribution is now planned for Spring 2014.
