Surgical and anaesthetic facilities in Mongolia are limited. Though a few hospitals have newer equipment most rely on older and even pre-Russian machines and monitoring. Few anaesthetic drugs are available and anaesthetic textbooks are all much outdated.
Colleagues in Australia have had long-standing relationships with anaesthesia professionals in Mongolia and have been working with them to improve anaesthetic facilities in the country.
Lifebox® has been able to benefit from these existing links in our first distribution of 100 oximeters which took place during July 2013. This distribution was funded by the Australian & New Zealand College of Anaesthetists and was facilitated by the Mongolian Society of Anesthesiologists. Take a moment to read about the experiences of Dr Simon Hendel, who was ‘our man in Mongolia’ on our blog.
