Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Supporting India Emergency COVID-19 Response
As cases of COVID-19 surged in India, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) provided a rapid-response grant towards Lifebox’s India COVID-19 emergency efforts.
As cases of COVID-19 surged in India, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) – in line with its mission – responded in a number of ways. In June 2021, SNF provided a rapid-response grant towards Lifebox’s India COVID-19 emergency efforts.
SNF’s support has enabled Lifebox to provide urgently needed assistance to our anesthesia partners in Maharashtra – one of India’s worst COVID-affected states – and where Lifebox has worked for the past five years.
Medical equipment for Solapur’s COVID-19 management centers
This work is continuing in the district of Solapur, where Lifebox is supporting the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Solapur in its partnership with the local government in setting up a COVID-19 patient management center with medical equipment, including pulse oximeters and ventilators.
With SNF’s support, Lifebox has also developed a video with India COVID SOS to provide guidance on the use of pulse oximeters to monitor COVID-19 patients at home, and when to seek professional help. This video is available in five languages and is being used as a resource across the globe.

SNF previously funded Lifebox’s foundational anesthesia work in India. This emergency funding builds upon the support provided towards Lifebox’s COVID-19 response as part of SNF’s global COVID-19 relief initiative – providing pulse oximeters, training point-of-care providers, and developing an online training platform. SNF is also contributing funding to our work in Liberia to strengthen surgical safety through our Clean Cut program.
