Anaesthesia under fire: maintaining and strengthening services in Ukraine and beyond

Lifebox featured in the Australian Society of Anaesthetists (ASA) Bulletin.

We are excited to share that Lifebox’s work has been featured in the latest edition of the Australian Society of Anaesthetists (ASA) Bulletin. The article shines a powerful light on the strength and resilience of surgical teams working in some of the toughest places on earth. It tells the story of how, in war, pandemics, and collapsing health systems, anaesthesia and surgical providers continue showing up, delivering lifesaving care with determination, courage, and a few essential tools.

This feature highlights our work in Ukraine, including the incredible story of Lviv Emergency Hospital, where teams opened 20 operating rooms in a single night following a missile strike, and some providers stayed in the hospital for over a month to ensure patients got the care they needed. From bunkers in Ukraine to remote COVID-19 wards across 53 countries, the Bulletin captures the heart of what we do: providing practical tools like pulse oximeters, capnographs and surgical headlights, alongside training that helps keep surgery safe in the most challenging conditions.

We are so grateful to the Australian Society of Anaesthetists for sharing these stories and for their continued support of global surgical safety.
