MyLifesavingOximeter “makes my patients’ lives safe” in Ethiopia

“When other monitors fail, the Lifebox pulse oximeter becomes our sole safety monitor.”

Dr. Rediet Shimeles Workneh is an anesthesiologist at Ghandi Memorial hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She is a true safe surgery champion, and a longtime friend of Lifebox. We recently caught up with Dr. Rediet about her Lifebox pulse oximeter, which she uses on a daily basis at her hospital.

Dr. Rediet told us what a Lifebox pulse oximeter means for her and her patients: “Having a Lifebox pulse oximeter means quite a lot. It means patients can be monitored safely during transportation for investigations, or from the OR to the ICU or vice versa. It assures safety.”

The Lifebox pulse oximeter is a critical tool for anesthesia providers and is especially valued due to its durability and longevity.

“In one hospital where I worked, when the main monitors failed, the Lifebox pulse oximeter became our sole safety monitor. It was used in the pediatric operating room on a regular basis,” explained Dr. Rediet.

Dr. Rediet shared a final thought with us on how her Lifebox pulse oximeter benefits her and her patients: “My lifesaving oximeter has made my patient’s life safe, and my work comfortable and easier.”

Throughout Ethiopia and the rest of the world, there are still operating rooms lacking this essential monitoring device. That is why we need you to chip in and make sure anesthesia providers like Dr. Rediet can safely care for their patients. Make a donation to Lifebox so that we can put more oximeters where they are needed most.
