Oximetry roll-out in Eritrea

In late 2011 Lifebox® dispatched 78 pulse oximeters to the Eritrean Ministry of Health for distribution to operating rooms which were working without this life-saving equipment.

On 3 February 2012 the Ministry of Health held a training workshop for anaesthesia providers from all over the country. This national event included training in use of the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist, as well as pulse oximetry, and had representation from over 85% of the country’s hospitals.

We are currently working with our local champions to follow up the equipment distribution and training. Data has already come in from hospitals in and around the capital which report that all oximeters are in daily use.
